The English is one of the most extensively spoken and understood languages and mode of communication in the world. It is also literary and functional language with vast variety of books on various subjects. This facilitates academic pursuits, intellectual enrichment and professional excellence.

In Pakistan, English is also used as medium of instruction in educational institutions and official language in government and private organizations. Therefore, learning writing and communication skills in English language is very important for students, supporting staff and professionals to excel in their respective fields. The students educated in 'O' and 'A' level schools/colleges and some other English medium schools know such skills. It has been observed that most of the educational institutions lack in qualified English teaching faculty. As a result of this, the students from these institutions feel difficulty in competing for admission in good institutions of higher learning and better jobs.

Keeping in view the dearth of quality English language teachers/professionals and need to develop writing and communication skills in English, the Department of English has been established in Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University, Shaheed Benazirabad. The Department will conduct English language courses and offer BS English 4-year program. This will generate employment opportunities for educated youth.
